Welcome to the Canada After School Group LEGO Robotics Program—a place where creativity meets innovation! Our program offers children the exciting opportunity to explore robotics through hands-on learning and fun challenges. By building and programming robots, kids can develop problem-solving skills and ignite their passion for technology.
What is a Robot?
What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word “robot”? Do you picture a humanoid machine with advanced intelligence capable of performing human tasks? Or perhaps a robotic arm on a factory production line? Maybe a high-tech space rover exploring distant planets? Regardless of the image, robots come in many forms, and learning to program one can seem daunting, especially if you’ve never tried it before. But don't worry—helping your kids learn how to program robots is easier than you might think! Keep reading to discover how you can get started.
What can you build with LEGO® robots – and how?
With LEGO® robots, the possibilities are endless! Your child will quickly grasp how coding is applied in robotics and learn to incorporate these skills into their own robots, machines, and creative designs. The programming software is incredibly user-friendly—just drag and drop simple icons and coding blocks to add movement, functions, timing, and interactions. Then, press 'play' and watch their robot come to life! It’s that easy to transform your child into a coding expert in no time.
If your child isn’t quite ready to build robot chickens or dinosaurs to rule the world, no problem! They can start with the easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions included with every LEGO robotics kit, allowing them to learn at their own pace while still having fun.

Prepares for Future Careers
Robotics is a great way to introduce children to key STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) concepts in a fun, interactive way. By programming robots, kids gain practical experience in technology and engineering, while learning fundamental principles of math and science.
Programming robots requires kids to think critically and solve problems by breaking down complex tasks into manageable steps. They learn to troubleshoot, test, and refine their solutions, which fosters logical thinking.Whether it’s designing a robot to navigate a maze or perform a specific task, kids can express their creativity through engineering.
Our students have the opportunity to join competitive teams that participate in the FIRST LEGO League. This global competition challenges teams to research and solve real-world problems using LEGO robotics, fostering a spirit of competition and collaboration.
Robotics and programming are essential skills in today's technology-driven world. Early exposure to programming prepares kids for future careers in fields like robotics, computer science, artificial intelligence, and engineering, which are increasingly in demand.
What is First LEGO League?
FIRST LEGO League (FLL) is an international robotics competition designed to introduce children, typically between the ages of 4 and 16, to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) concepts through engaging, hands-on learning.
The competition promotes collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills, while fostering an interest in STEM subjects. Participants not only develop technical skills but also learn values like teamwork, inclusion, and perseverance.
